Laurel Smith
Sixth Grade Teacher
Laurel Smith teaches sixth grade Literature and Composition which combines her love for words, stories, and middle schoolers with a joyful spirit and plenty of wit. A native Memphian and graduate of Ouachita Baptist University, Laurel is a fourth-generation teacher who homeschooled her four kids in the classical tradition – which include a set of boy/girl twins and a youngest daughter adopted from China at age 11.
Though she’s taught just about every subject at every grade level, Literature and Composition are her favorite by far. When she’s not in the classroom, Laurel can be found reading fantasy or historical fiction, watching musicals, or dominating a board game of Settlers of Catan. She’s also a loyal fan of the Grizzlies and Tigers. Fun fact: Laurel has visited 25 states, 4 countries, and recorded two albums as a vocalist in a Contemporary Christian group.
