Director of Music
Ginger Smith is a lifelong music lover with a knack for bringing harmonies to life—whether on stage, in the classroom, or behind a piano. She earned her Bachelor of Music in Music Education (with a focus on piano and voice) from the University of Mississippi, where she collected awards like the Brown-Ellis Piano Scholarship and the Department of Music’s Outstanding Undergraduate Award—twice!
Ginger has taken on some pretty big vocal works as a soprano soloist, performing everything from Mozart and Haydn to Handel, Rutter, and Bach—basically, if it’s in a fancy concert hall and written in Latin or German, she’s probably sung it. She’s also no stranger to the stage, having played roles like the Baroness in The Sound of Music, the Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors, and Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte—proving she’s just as comfortable with opera as she is with a good musical number.
As a teacher, Ginger has shared her passion for music with students at several high schools in both Florida and Tennessee. One of her proudest moments? Taking her chorus from Lake Region High School all the way to Carnegie Hall to perform Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna.
In addition to her role at Westminster, she is also the music director at Riveroaks Reformed Presbyterian Church and mom to four girls – Margaret (class of ‘22), Jennie (class of ‘24), Sarah (class of ‘26), and Ellen (class of ‘31). Whether she’s leading a choir rehearsal of 70’s music or belting out a Bach cantata, Ginger brings exceptional skill and a whole lot of heart to everything she does.
